Designer Loes Sikkes graduated cum laude in 2004 on globalisation and national identities at the Willem de Kooning Academy - University of Rotterdam. Since then she has been working as a graphic designer and set up multiple design studio’s starting with Studio Léon&Loes and in 2012 Medamo; both design agencies specialised in visual communication. In addition, she was Course Leader of Visual Communication at the Willem de Kooning Academie and taught Publication Design in the Illustration department. As a member of the Editorial Board of BNO IMG LAB she contributed to stimulating the Design debate between different design disciplines in the city of Rotterdam.
She just returned from a one-year working experience in China. At first teaching as a guest lecturer at MIADA (Modern International Arts and Design Academy) in Chongqing and next was appointed creative manager at De Boer Wang Studio and lecturer at Shanghai Institute of Visual Art / DeTao Master Academy of Branding, Public Space and Visual Communication Design. Back in Rotterdam she will continue her design practice as an independent designer in collaboration with various teams. Together with her chosen team members with the exact expertise needed for the projects, they will be able to focus particularly on the content within the projects.
The drive with which she translates new insights, approaches and social involvement into a clear design solution says it all about her approach. She crosses the traditional professional borders and gains pleasure where strategy, design, digital media and typography come together in the end.
